Kinesiotaping

What is kinesiotaping?
Kinesiotaping is an innovative therapeutic method that uses special elastic tape to support and restore muscle and joint function. This technique was developed in the 1970s by Japanese chiropractor Dr. Kenzo Kase and has become widely popular worldwide.
Unlike traditional sports taping that restricts movement, kinesio tape supports the restoration and maintenance of natural movement. The tape mimics skin elasticity and allows full range of motion while providing additional support and feedback to the nervous system.
Professional kinesiotaping requires deep knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics, and muscle function to achieve optimal results and safety.
How does kinesiotaping work?
Kinesio tape affects the body through several mechanisms:
Skin lift effect
The tape gently lifts the skin, increasing space between skin and muscles, which improves circulation and reduces pain.
Proprioceptive feedback
The tape stimulates mechanoreceptors in the skin, improving body awareness and coordination while helping muscles activate at the right time.
Lymphatic drainage
The tape promotes lymphatic fluid flow, helping remove swelling and accelerating recovery processes in case of injuries.
Muscle support
The tape assists optimal muscle function, supporting weak muscles and reducing tension in overloaded muscles.
Pain control
The tape applies "gate control" theory, where mechanical stimulation blocks pain signals from reaching the brain.
Functional mobility support
The tape allows normal movement while supporting correct movement patterns and helping avoid compensatory movements.
What conditions does kinesiotaping help with?
Kinesio tape colors
All kinesio tape colors are physically identical - color does not affect tape effectiveness or function. Color choice is primarily an aesthetic preference:
Beige/Neutral
Most popular choice, suits all skin tones well and is discreet
Blue
Popular choice, especially among men. Highly visible when swimming
Red/Pink
Brighter choice, often preferred by women. Highly visible and energetic appearance
Black
Popular among athletes, looks professional and doesn't show dirt
Yellow
Bright and noticeable color, suits lighter skin tones well
Green
Calm appearance, suitable for those who prefer natural tones
Kinesiotaping process
Assessment
Thorough problem analysis and selection of appropriate technique
Skin preparation
Skin cleaning and drying for optimal adhesion
Positioning
Finding the correct body position for tape application
Tape application
Precise tape placement with appropriate tension and direction
Activation
Tape "rubbing" for activation and improved adhesion
Instructions
Care instructions and wearing time recommendations
Care instructions
To ensure optimal effect and durability of kinesio tape:
- Avoid rubbing when wet - gently dry the tape after shower or bathing
- Don't take hot saunas for the first 24 hours
- Monitor skin reaction - remove immediately if signs of allergy appear
- Wear for 3-5 days - longer wearing is usually not necessary
- Remove gently - use warm water or oil to reduce skin irritation
- Take a break - give skin time to rest before applying new tape
Contraindications
Kinesiotaping is not suitable for everyone. Please inform the therapist if you have:
- Allergy to latex or adhesives
- Skin diseases or irritations at application site
- Fresh wounds or burns
- Acute infections under the skin
- Severe cardiovascular disease
- Very sensitive or easily damaged skin
- Thrombosis or deep vein problems
- Active stage cancer in the treatment area
