What is the lymphatic system?

The lymphatic system is part of our immune system and plays a crucial role in body cleansing. It consists of lymph nodes, a network of lymphatic vessels, and lymphatic fluid that transports white blood cells, proteins, and waste products throughout the body.

Unlike the circulatory system, the lymphatic system doesn't have a heart to pump fluid - therefore lymphatic fluid movement is slow and depends on muscle contractions, breathing, and external stimulation such as massage.

When the lymphatic system doesn't function optimally, swelling, weakened immunity, and toxin accumulation in tissues can occur.

How does lymphatic massage work?

Lymphatic massage uses special, gentle and rhythmic techniques:

Gentle movements

Light, rhythmic movements stimulate lymph nodes and lymphatic vessels, increasing lymphatic fluid flow without damaging tissues.

Directed pressure

Gentle pressure in the right direction helps lymphatic fluid move toward lymph nodes, where toxins are filtered out.

Swelling reduction

Stimulates lymphatic drainage, helping remove excess fluids from tissues and reducing swelling.

Immune system strengthening

Improves white blood cell circulation and activates lymph nodes, strengthening the body's defense mechanisms.

Detoxification

Accelerates toxin and waste product removal from tissues, promoting the body's natural cleansing process.

Relaxation

Gentle, calming movements activate the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress and improving sleep quality.

Frequently asked questions

No, lymphatic massage is very gentle and should be pleasant. The pressure is much lighter than regular massage. If you feel pain, inform the therapist immediately - this means the pressure is too strong.
Many people feel relief after the first session, especially if the problem is acute swelling. For chronic problems, effects may appear after 3-5 sessions. Detoxification effects are usually noticeable within 24-48 hours.
Depending on the condition: for acute swelling, you may need several sessions per week; for chronic problems, 1-2 times per week; for prevention, once a month. The therapist will create an individual treatment plan for you.
In rare cases, you may feel mild fatigue or dizziness - this is a normal detoxification reaction. Drink plenty of water and rest. If symptoms persist over 24 hours, contact the therapist.
Lymphatic massage is not directly a weight loss method, but can help reduce fluid retention and improve metabolism. Combined with healthy eating habits and exercise, it may support weight loss.
